New Medical Technology
Filling prescriptions and more importantly keeping track of them has gone high tech.
Dr. Kerry Stratford has been researching electronic medical records since medical school. Now with all the new technology there is a new system called eClinicalWorks currently being used at the St. George Clinic.
“It’s not just our records…we’re connected to the hospital and i can look up an x-ray on somebody. I had not just the x-ray report but the actual x-ray on my screen at the same time checking my notes and seeing what prescriptions they’re on and if they’re referred to another doctor i can look up their discharge summary.” Dr. Kerry Stratford
Dr. Stratford says that not only can he send prescriptions to the pharmacy from his desk…he can monitor a patient in labor. Because of the connections established at the hospital he can monitor …the labor progress…the contractions…as well as the babies’ heart rate.
“General quality of care has improved” Dr. Kerry Straford.
"The disaster of Katrina and New Orleans really stressed the need to be able to move this direction with having electronic records so that when people are displaced or there are emergencies like that…that you can be able to take your record anywhere or you can find them easily and not go through hassles of recreating all that patient history.” Dr. Kerry Stratford.
