D.C. Primary Care Association Selects eClinicalWorks Unified EMR/PM Solution

Deal Brings Integrated System to Six Clinics in Washington, D.C. as Part of Medical Homes D.C. Initiative

WESTBOROUGH, Mass—July 23, 2007 - eClinicalWorks, a market leader in unified EMR/PM systems, today announced that the D.C. Primary Care Association (DCPCA) has chosen eClinicalWorks unified electronic medical records (EMR) and practice management (PM) solution in a deal to automate six Community Health Centers (CHCs) and Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) within the DCPCA-led Medical Homes D.C. initiative. This EMR project, which was funded through City grant money, may later expand to include four additional CHCs in D.C.

"Medical Homes D.C. is about creating community health centers where a patient can go for routine primary medical care where doctors and staff know them and their health history," said Sharon Baskerville, executive director for D.C. Primary Care Association. "Cost-effective systems like EMRs allow for better data tracking and following of patients who visit a variety of health center sites, giving providers access to truly comprehensive health records and ultimately improving the quality of primary and preventive care – the true goal of any medical home. eClinicalWorks EMR/PM was specifically selected because of its success in bringing these types of systems to community health centers."

The Medical Homes D.C. initiative began in 2003 by DCPCA to increase the capacity of D.C.'s primary care safety net providers through capital, clinical and financial improvements. Support from federal grants, local grantmakers, and capital funds from the mayor and D.C. Council help DCPCA to provide centers with assistance and performance improvement tools, including EMRs. Using eClinicalWorks EMR/PM, primary care health centers in the City will be able to monitor and better manage chronic care for patients, promote patient safety while reducing costs, and improve overall patient health because of better continuity and coordination in patient care.

In D.C., EMRs will serve as a community health information system to support an integrated healthcare delivery network, allowing for streamlined patient enrollment and referral to specialists. As part of the Medical Homes D.C. initiative, EMRs will provide a health record that follows the patient to different sites of care, improving continuity of care, billing and reimbursement for long term sustainability, and reporting of required public health data to District agencies. EMRs have the potential to dramatically improve preventive care and close the gap on health disparities in D.C.

"D.C. is recognized as a frontrunner in deploying valuable technology enhancements that will benefit residents as a whole," said Girish Kumar Navani, president of eClinicalWorks. "eClinicalWorks works closely with CHCs and FQHCs to enrich our products to meet the unique reporting requirements of these centers. DCPCA's selection of eClinicalWorks validates our strategy in this area, while providing its associated primary care providers with a comprehensive and intuitive solution."

About DCPCA
The D.C. Primary Care Association (DCPCA) is a nonprofit health action and advocacy organization founded in 1996 to improve health care and health coverage for the District's low-income residents. With the creation of Medical Homes D.C., DCPCA embarked on a $145 million, ten-year project to improve access to high quality primary care in the District's many medically underserved neighborhoods, ensuring that everyone in D.C. can receive primary health care regardless of their ability to pay.
