Artificial intelligence is having an “aha” moment in healthcare. Each day, more practices and providers are recognizing AI’s power to transform many aspects of daily practice. AI can complete patient check-in swiftly, accurately, and securely. It can streamline workflows, reduce the time providers spend on daily documentation, help keep schedules full, and improve Revenue Cycle Management.
The remarkable power and utility of AI makes it suitable for every medical practice, regardless of size or specialty. So, it is no surprise that about half of healthcare professionals are already using AI in some form.
A survey of nearly 900 healthcare professionals attending the 2025 eClinicalWorks and healow National Conference, held in Orlando in September, confirmed the many benefits of AI in healthcare, highlighted areas where it has been put to work with great success, and pointed to a few others where there is unrealized potential.
Defining the AI ‘haves’ and ‘ought to haves’
First there are the AI “haves”: Almost exactly half of respondents said they are using at least some form of AI, whether a single solution or multiple applications throughout their practice.
Survey participants cited four key factors that might lead them to embrace AI tools: Reduced administrative burdens, improved patient experiences, demonstrated ROI and cost savings, and better integration with their Electronic Health Record.
Since AI continues to compile an impressive record of achievement in each of those areas, increased adoption appears to be only a matter of time.
√ Reduced administrative burdens
More than a third of AI users are using Sunoh.ai medical scribe for documentation of patient encounters. Sunoh’s ambient listening power creates highly accurate draft documentation, helping clinicians focus on patients rather than a computer keyboard. And when a visit ends, physicians can quickly review Sunoh’s draft clinical notes for accuracy and complete documentation for the visit.
Practices are also using eClinicalWorks Image AI to better manage their fax inboxes and AI Assistant for PRISMA to gather patient records from external sources and create a comprehensive patient record at the point of care.
The survey found:
66% of Sunoh.ai users report saving between one and four hours daily on documentation.
Most Sunoh users cited overall efficiency and time-savings as key reasons for adopting an AI medical scribe; many also citing its potential to reduce burnout and improve interactions with their patients.
64% of respondents using Image AI for faster management of their fax inboxes are saving more than an hour each day.
57% of AI users use PRISMA AI to reduce the average two hours spent daily gathering records from external sources.
√ Improved patient experiences
Making life better for providers is only half the healthcare equation. AI tools are also making life better for patients.
The healow Genie AI-powered contact center solution, which debuted just a few weeks after the National Conference, is already effectively fielding hundreds of phone calls and routine inquiries that would otherwise go to the front office.
The AI survey found that 72% plan to use healow Genie, with 460 respondents citing streamlined administrative processes as the most-anticipated benefit, followed by enhanced communication efficiency (395 responses), increased patient satisfaction (391 responses), and a reduction in no-shows (271 responses).
√ Demonstrated ROI and cost savings
The multipurpose nature of AI tools mean that implementing any given solution is likely to have ripple effects throughout a practice. For example, a more efficient check-in process gives front-office personnel more time to focus on direct patient care, promoting better outcomes. And providers who are using Sunoh.ai to save time on documentation can use those hours either to see more patients or get back some valuable personal time, thereby lowering the risk of burnout.
AI’s impact can, of course, be measured financially in dollars and cents saved, most clearly in Revenue Cycle Management.
The AI survey found 53% of respondents plan to implement AI for RCM, with 76% citing increased revenue capture as the leading benefit. Increase visibility into financial data through enhanced dashboards and financial management solutions will help sustain practice finances and free resources for other purposes.
√ Better integration with existing EHRs
The AI survey also found strong enthusiasm for ambient computing, a concept that combines AI technologies to make patient information, messages, schedules, and other resources available to providers whenever and wherever they work.
The survey found 76% agree that ambient computing will help deliver better healthcare.
Elements of ambient computing include the use of smart glasses that let providers access a daily Sunoh podcast for recaps, messages, schedule, action items, and financial updates — in the office, at home, or on the road.
It also encompasses cards technology that displays clinical information and labs during patient visits, helping providers engage patients with clear and accurate information that deepens understanding and helps promote patients’ compliance with medication regiments and treatment plans.
Moreover, many of the AI solutions offered in today’s marketplace — including Sunoh.ai and healow Genie — are completely EHR-agnostic, meaning they can be used by practices regardless of which EHR they favor.
Don’t wait — the AI future is here
Today’s AI solutions check all the boxes that matter to providers. It means less administrative work, better patient experiences, cost savings, and integration with any EHR. And yet some practices remain hesitant, either because of perceived learning curves, worries over costs and training, or a concern that AI might be misused.
At eClinicalWorks and healow, those concerns are of primary importance in guiding our development of responsible, cost-effective AI solutions that are simple to implement and use. Everything we do is with providers and patients in mind and keeps the human touch first and foremost in healthcare.
Practices have always delivered great healthcare. But the increasingly complex world of healthcare presents new challenges that demand new solutions. AI is making it easier for practices to keep up, handling a wide variety of tasks with speed and efficiency while delivering the insight providers need to deliver the very best possible care.
