“Instead of having to add all of those additional resources and all of those additional notes, we’re able to easily import all of the stuff from the past right into this current episode of care, and that has been a game changer for us.”
– Megan Isham, Senior Clinical System Manager, Mental Health Cooperative

Problem

Before implementing the eClinicalWorks Behavioral Health integrated solution, Mental Health Cooperative of Nashville, Tennessee, struggled with managing chaotic behavioral health intakes. Staff had to scramble to locate which bed or room a patient was in, especially during critical situations like drug overdoses or psychotic episodes. Patient registration was time consuming, and tracking medication administration required multiple steps, increasing the risk of errors. Additionally, transferring patient history and medication details from previous visits involved manual work, leading to inefficiencies, data gaps, and unnecessary paperwork. This lack of a centralized system made it difficult for the team to provide timely and coordinated care.

Solution

eClinicalWorks provided a centralized Behavioral Health platform where all patient details, including room assignments, medication information, and clinical history, are accessible in one place. Registration is streamlined, allowing staff to quickly log patient information and assign rooms, even in high-pressure scenarios. The module integrates with their Pyxis® system and automatically transfers home medications for returning patients, eliminating manual data entry and reducing errors. The census list offers a real-time overview of all admitted patients, empowering nurses to efficiently administer medications and focus on patient care.

About Practice:

Founded in Nashville, Tennessee, Mental Health Cooperative (MHC) was established to meet the urgent need for assertive, community-based treatment for individuals frequently requiring inpatient psychiatric hospitalization. Since 1993, MHC has been dedicated to helping adults with severe mental illness live meaningful, quality lives in the community through state-of-the-art treatment and comprehensive support. Recognizing the importance of supporting entire families, MHC expanded its services in 1999 to include children and youth. MHC was formed through the merger of three community organizations: Urban Case Management of Meharry Community Health Center, Continuous Treatment Team of Council of Community Services, and the Mobile Crisis Team of the Crisis Intervention Center. This fusion created a pioneering, multidisciplinary approach tailored to the complex needs of people living with severe behavioral health conditions and the additional challenges of poverty. Today, MHC remains the only organization in Tennessee exclusively devoted to serving this unique population.
