Thousands of Customers Upgrade to eClinicalWorks Meaningful Use Version in First Quarter; Among Fastest and Smoothest Upgrade

WESTBOROUGH, Mass.—April 14, 2011—eClinicalWorks®, a market leader in ambulatory clinical systems, today announced that 2,000 practices have successfully upgraded to Version 9, the company’s meaningful use (MU) version, which, with electronic prescribing and the eClinicalWorks Patient Portal, has received 2011/2012 ONC-ATCB Complete EHR certification by the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT ®).

“We have been using eClinicalWorks since 2004,” said Dr. Seth Eaton, of MedPeds, a practice that is a Level-3 Patient Centered Medical Home. “Version 9 has been the most functionally improved and best delivered major upgrade we have received. Using Version 9 in conjunction with Patient Portal has further enhanced our ability to engage patients and families, and we are confident that we will meet meaningful use.”

Aiding its customers through the attestation process of meaningful use, eClinicalWorks has developed the eClinicalWorks Meaningful Use, Adoption, and Quality (MAQ) Dashboards and are offering them free of charge. As part of participating in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) EHR Incentive Program, providers are required to supply data that illustrates their meaningful usage of a certified EHR. The data reported to CMS is generated by the EHR, eClinicalWorks provides this information to providers through the MAQ Dashboard. These dashboards allow providers to track their progress on each of the objectives and measures during the reporting period and beyond.

“eClinicalWorks has instituted multiple avenues for getting its customers ready for meaningful use, including developing MAQ Dashboards, which are well-designed and very easy to use,” said Dr. Bradley Block. “We are confident that we will successfully attest for meaningful use.”

To further provide meaningful use education, eClinicalWorks is conducting a series of RoadShows across the nation for medical providers, clinical staff and office administrators. These are free interactive sessions on all 25 requirements of MU that also demonstrate new features. There are also daily free Webinars educating customers on MU. With the MAQ Dashboards, RoadShows, Webinars, newsletters, MU Assessment, and others, eClinicalWorks has developed tools and educational resources to aid providers in becoming meaningful users.

On July 13, 2010, the U.S. Health and Human Services Department released the final rule on meaningful use of an EHR under the HITECH Act. Signed into law by President Obama on February 17, 2009, the HITECH Act authorizes the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to provide a reimbursement incentive for physician and hospital providers who demonstrate the meaningful use of an EHR.
