Catholic IPA of Western New York Using Unified EMR/PM System to Streamline Operations and Improve Quality of Care for 150 Providers, Possibility of Expansion

Westborough, Mass.—November 9, 2009—eClinicalWorks®, a market leader in ambulatory clinical systems, today announced that Buffalo, New York’s Catholic Independent Practice Association (CIPA) has selected eClinicalWorks unified electronic medical record (EMR) and practice management (PM) software for the Catholic Health System’s network of ambulatory care offices and for select community physicians, purchasing 150 licenses. eClinicalWorks will also work with the IPA to connect into HEALTHeLINK, the local Regional Health Information Organization (RHIO).

“CIPA has long recognized the value that electronic medical records can provide to physicians, but we have also understood the burden of cost for a small practice. In order to stimulate the adoption of technology CIPA has supported our physicians through incentives to implement an EMR and has doubled the adoption rate of the rest of the country,” says Dennis Horrigan, President & CEO of CIPA WNY IPA, Inc. “We selected eClinicalWorks because of the flexibility shown both within the system, supporting both primary care and specialty practices, and as a company in allowing us to offer an ASP model that we (the Catholic Health System) hosts for our members.”

Benefits of Using eClinicalWorks:

  • Rapid deployment;
  • The ability to select delivery of system—either via a Software as a Service (SaaS) model or on-site client/server model; and
  • Build community network for supporting interoperability between practices.

Catholic Health System will host the solution for its CIPA members using a SaaS model so providers are able to access the system via a secure Internet connection. eClinicalWorks EMR/PM will allow CIPA members to streamline processes and promote patient safety while reducing costs. Providers will be eligible for a subsidy through the CIPA if they sign up before December 31, 2009. In addition to providing financial assistance to our physicians who adopt EMR, CIPA has appointed Sarah Fleming to head a technical and clinical team that is assisting them in achieving meaningful use and NCQA Patient Centered Medical Home recognition.

“Community-based programs, such as CIPA, are an important part of managing patient care,” said Girish Kumar Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks. “Using eClinicalWorks and connecting the system with the local RHIO will improve clinical care and communication between practices. We are please to have been selected by CIPA as it is a validation of our company and products, and we look forward to working with them as a partner.”
