Nephrology Group Chooses eClinicalWorks Comprehensive Electronic Health Record Solution to Improve Quality of Care

WESTBOROUGH, Mass.—October 2, 2011—eClinicalWorks®, a market leader in ambulatory clinical systems, today announced that Denver Nephrology has chosen eClinicalWorks comprehensive electronic health records (EHR) solution for use across 12 locations. Designed to improve quality of care, the technology will also provide specialty-specific features, and interfaces between eClinicalWorks and the group’s LabCorp and Quest systems will further automate workflow.

“Denver Nephrology aspires to provide the highest quality and most up-to-date care for our more than 18,000 patients,” said Dr. Michael Shapiro, president and CEO of Denver Nephrology. “We chose to replace our current EMR and practice management systems with eClinicalWorks because of its ease-of-use, allowing us to improve the quality of care delivered in a comprehensive, unified manner. We chose an EHR that will meet our goals related to evaluating clinical care, including mobile functions to aid our providers when they are caring for patients at other locations. Using this system, we expect to increase productivity and are confident in meeting meaningful use standards.”

eClinicalWorks will assist the Nephrology practice in its chronic disease management with the use of specialty-specific features, including clinical content templates. Using eClinicalWorks will also enable Denver Nephrology and its providers to pursue quality initiatives, including the provisions in the HITECH Act, which authorizes the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to impart a reimbursement incentive for physician and hospital providers who demonstrate the meaningful use of an EHR. eClinicalWorks has also worked with organizations including IPRO Improving Healthcare for the Common Good® to create videos and educational materials aiding nephrologists and other healthcare providers in managing patients with chronic kidney disease as well as achieving meaningful use with eClinicalWorks.

“eClinicalWorks has a comprehensive solution that is ideal for use in most ambulatory settings, regardless of specialty,” said Girish Kumar Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks. “Selecting eClinicalWorks, Denver Nephrology will experience improved patient flow and access to patients’ health information to further enhance the quality of care delivered. We look forward to working with Denver Nephrology to assist the practice in achieving its goals.”

As part of eClinicalWorks’ comprehensive EHR solution, Denver Nephrology will implement the following:

eClinicalWorks EMR/PM enables clinicians to manage patient flow, immediately access patient records in-house or remotely, electronically communicate with the referring physicians and securely send consult notes and clinical data;
eClinicalWorks Patient Portal allows patients and doctors to communicate securely via the Internet;
eBO® performs clinical and financial analytics;
eClinicalMobile® permits Denver Nephrology’s physicians to access the system at any time through their smart phone, including facilitating mobile charge captures at the point of care;
eClinicalMessenger® acts as a messaging service that utilizes Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) to enable physician practices to send messages, in batches or singularly, to patients for aspects of care. This includes appointment reminders, lab results, diagnostic imaging and statements; and
eClinicalWorks P2P™ provides practice-to-practice, provider-to-provider communications in a peer-to-peer environment.
