Award-winning Electronic Health Records (EHR) Company Selected by California Health Information Partnership and Services Organizations (CalHIPSO) as EHR Partner

WESTBOROUGH, Mass.—March 1, 2011—eClinicalWorks®, a market leader in ambulatory clinical systems, today announced that the California Health Information Partnership and Services Organizations (CalHIPSO) has selected the company as a first round Electronic Health Record (EHR) Partner for its primary care providers. CalHIPSO provides Regional Extension Center (REC) services to all of California except Los Angeles and Orange County. As a partner, eClinicalWorks will provide comprehensive implementation services to help California providers get to meaningful use.

“We are very pleased to enter into a partnership with eClinicalWorks on behalf of REC members throughout California,” said Speranza Avram, Executive Director, CalHIPSO, a federally-designated Regional Extension Center serving more than 6,000 providers in California. “We look forward to working together with eClinicalWorks, and our other partner vendors, to bring the benefits of leading edge EHR products together with robust Regional Extension Center services for the benefit of providers throughout the state.”

“eClinicalWorks has a long track record of quick, successful deployments,” said Girish Kumar Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks. “Many of our customers have been recognized by quality programs, including the HIMSS Davies Awards and as Patient-Centered Medical Homes. We are working closely with our customers to provide them with the tools and education required to demonstrate meaningful use and we look forward to partnering with CalHIPSO and its providers.”

CalHIPSO has been collaborating with the other two RECs in California, HITEC- LA and CalOptima Regional Extension Center (CoREC) to ensure that REC members statewide have access to similar pricing and contract terms.

RECs were created under the Health Information Technology Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Under the HITECH Act, $677 million is allocated during the next two years to support a nationwide system of RECs. This will bring together group practices, critical access hospitals, community health centers and relation healthcare organizations through sustainable two-year grants. More information can be found at http://healthit.hhs.gov/portal/server.pt?open=512&objID=1495&mode=2.

Additionally, the HITECH Act also created the Medicare and Medicaid EHR incentive programs, which will provide incentive payments to eligible professionals and hospitals that demonstrate meaningful use of certified EHRs.
