HealthNet Implements Unified EMR/PM System, Enterprise Business Optimizer and eClinicalMessenger to Streamline Operations for More than 110 Providers and Residents

Chicago, HIMSS Conference, Booth #668—April 5, 2009—eClinicalWorks®, a market leader in ambulatory clinical systems, today announced that HealthNet, the largest Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Indiana, has chosen eClinicalWorks unified electronic medical records (EMR) and practice management (PM) solution for its more than 110 providers and resident physicians in eight locations. HealthNet will also use eClinicalWorks Enterprise Business Optimizer (eBO) for enhanced reporting capabilities and eClinicalMessenger, a messaging service that utilizes Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP).

“HealthNet is the largest FQHC in Indiana, serving thousands of families who live below the federal poverty level,” said Dr. Donald Trainor, Chief Medical Officer of HealthNet. “After a two and half year selection process, we selected eClinicalWorks because of its unified system as well as the intuitive nature of the product and its broad reporting capabilities. Using eClinicalWorks will also better position us to participate in the Indiana Health Information Exchange.”

eClinicalWorks EMR/PM will allow HealthNet to streamline processes between practice locations and promote patient safety while reducing costs. HealthNet has also chosen to implement eBO, which uses meta-data to give the practice more flexibility through the creation of customized reports and by performing clinical and financial analysis. eClinicalMessenger is a messaging service that utilizes VoIP to enable physician practices to send messages, in batches or singularly, to patients for aspects of care including appointment reminders, lab results, diagnostic imaging and statements. eClinicalMessenger is embedded in eClinicalWorks EMR/PM, so patients can respond to the message and have their response change the status in the EMR.

“Federally qualified health centers have certain unique needs that our EMR/PM system has been specifically tailored towards, including providing UDS reports,” said Girish Kumar Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks. “These centers are a growing market for implementing electronic health records and we have successfully implemented our solutions in many of them. HealthNet’s selection of eClinicalWorks is a validation of our strategy and vision in this area.”

A $2.5 million grant from the Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation, a private, independent foundation located in Indianapolis, Indiana, enabled HealthNet to undertake this initiative.

For more than 40 years, HealthNet has been a mainstay in the Indianapolis community. Through its network of five community-based, comprehensive primary care centers, an OB/GYN care center, a pediatric and adolescent care center, and eight school-based clinics, HealthNet annually serves over 42,000 individuals and families. Many of them are uninsured or underinsured and live below the federal poverty level.

HealthNet services include: primary and preventive healthcare; OB-GYN care, support and coaching for expectant mothers; Healthy Families and Better Indy Babies outreach programs; dental services; Homeless Initiative Program; counseling, outreach and social service programs. HealthNet’s health centers include Martindale-Brightwood Health & Dental Center, People’s Health & Dental Center, Southeast Health & Dental Center, Southwest Health Center, Southwest OB/GYN Annex, Barrington Health Center, the Care Center at the Tower and the Pediatric and Adolescent Care Center.
