Network of Community Clinics Utilizes Electronic Medical Records System, Patient Portal and Electronic Health eXchange to Improve Patient Care

Westborough, Mass.—December 3, 2007— eClinicalWorksTM, a market leader in ambulatory clinical systems, today announced that the Redwood Community Health Coalition (RCHC), the largest network of non-profit community health centers in California that is jointly procuring electronic medical records, has purchased licenses of eClinicalWorks unified electronic medical records (EMR) and practice management (PM) solution, along with Patient Portal and eClinicalWorks Electronic Health eXchange (eEHX) for ten community health centers operating 18 sites of care. This agreement will create a community health record to better coordinate patient care, and will provide significant community benefits by improving health outcomes through population management.

“With our emphasis on using data to improve the quality of care, RCHC health centers have laid a strong foundation for this major change in our operations,” noted Nancy Oswald, executive director for Redwood Community Health Coalition. “Implementing an electronic health exchange in conjunction with an EMR/PM system will create the coordination necessary to truly understand the needs of the population. RCHC chose eClinicalWorks for its superior provider-friendly usability and its ease in interfacing with our hospital systems and other parts of the healthcare system, now and as the project grows.”

RCHC is implementing eClinicalWorks unified EMR/PM system to streamline the clinical processes between practice locations and promote patient safety while reducing costs. The Patient Portal will provide RCHC with a secure means for doctors and patients to communicate, make appointments online, view lab results and enter health statements. eEHX provides a complete view of a patient record by allowing various practices, beginning with the participating health centers, to view and update the electronic chart.

“eClinicalWorks will play a critical role in improving our healthcare delivery by allowing us to proactively help patients prevent illness and treat their chronic disease,” said Dr. Jason Cunningham of West County Health Center.

“Federally-supported health centers offer quality care to patients under stricter guidelines than many private medical practices, making their needs unique,” said Girish Kumar Navani, president of eClinicalWorks. “eClinicalWorks has enriched our products over the past few years to meet the requirements of these centers, making our solutions the most compatible with them. Using our suite of solutions will enable RCHC to have a more complete view of their patient’s information, allowing its providers to better coordinate care.”

About Redwood Community Health Coalition

RCHC health centers are the medical homes for almost 150,000 people, making it the largest provider of care for the working poor and uninsured in Marin, Napa, Sonoma and Yolo counties. RCHC’s service area is one of great wealth and great disparity. It is located north of San Francisco, California, and includes rural, suburban and urban communities with a total population of approximately one million people. By providing cost-efficient, high quality, culturally competent health care services to people regardless of their ability to pay, RCHC clinics are able to improve quality of life for their patients, control health care costs and ease the burden on local hospital emergency rooms. RCHC is able to make this investment through supplemental grants from the federal government and from Kaiser Permanente.
