Healthcare Organization Begins Ambulatory Electronic Health Record System Initiative for its 200 Employed Physicians and 5,000 Affiliate, Non-employed Medical Staff in California, Colorado, Kansas and Montana

Westborough, Mass.—September 12, 2007— eClinicalWorks™, a market leader in unified EMR/PM systems, today announced that the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System (SCLHS) has selected the company’s unified electronic medical record (EMR) and practice management (PM) system, along with eClinicalWorks Patient Portal, for its Ambulatory Electronic Health Record (aEHR) initiative. As part of this project, eClinicalWorks EMR/PM will interface with the SCLHS GE Centricity Enterprise hospital system and with local Regional Health Information Organization (RHIO) initiatives. SCLHS will make the eClinicalWorks system available to its 200 employed physicians and to the 5,000 independently practicing physicians on its hospital medical staffs, on a voluntary basis.

“We have undertaken this aEHR initiative as a means to enhance care delivery and improve access to care and health information while protecting the information’s security and privacy,” said Richard T. Lopes, M.D., SCLHS chief clinical transformation officer. “We are collaborating with physicians to ensure that this system will provide precisely the information they need to facilitate improvements in clinical outcomes across the care delivery continuum. eClinicalWorks has proven its ability to exceed these requirements, especially as we connect to our inpatient hospital system and local RHIOs.”

The Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System (SCLHS) is a Catholic not-for-profit health system, composed of eight hospitals and four stand-alone clinics in California, Colorado, Kansas and Montana. SCLHS is sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth and encompasses nearly 11,000 employees, 2,200 staffed beds and a variety of specialties. Using eClinicalWorks, hospital-affiliated providers will have improved communication and patient information during both hospital stays and visits to private physician practices. Patient Portal will enable providers to communicate securely with their patients via the Internet.

“The Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System is leading a new trend in hospitals by helping its community physicians implement systems that increase the quality of patient care, in addition to making both the practice and the affiliated hospital work more efficiently,” said Girish Kumar Navani, president of eClinicalWorks. “By selecting eClinicalWorks EMR/PM and Patient Portal, SCLHS is validating eClinicalWorks’ role in building community-based electronic health records. Also, interfacing eClinicalWorks with its GE Centricity hospital system will ensure that SCLHS affiliated physicians have the most up-to-date patient information to provide superior care.”
