Nationally Accredited Student Health Center Will Utilize Comprehensive EHR and Patient Engagement Tools to Enhance Healthcare for More Than 34,000 Students

WESTBOROUGH, Mass.—May 13, 2013—eClinicalWorks®, a leader in ambulatory healthcare IT solutions, today announced that Texas State University, one of the largest universities in Texas with an enrollment of over 34,000 students, will utilize eClinicalWorks’ comprehensive electronic health records (EHR) solution in its student health service. eClinicalWorks will interface with the university’s Banner student information system for demographic and eligibility information, as well as Quest Diagnostics, Austin Radiological Association and ProPharm. The integration of all of the patient’s important healthcare information will help improve the quality of patient care and patient safety. The addition of eClinicalWorks Patient Portal will provide patients and medical providers with enhanced capabilities for communication and patient education. Students will also be able to access their personal health records (PHR) from almost anywhere through the use of the Health & Online Wellness (healow™) smartphone application.

“Texas State is the largest provider of primary care services in the county and provides high-quality, comprehensive services to a student population of over 34,000. We wanted to partner with a software company that was committed to innovation and could help us improve healthcare services,” said Emilio Carranco, M.D., Director of the Student Health Center at Texas State University. “We selected eClinicalWorks because of its excellent track record, impressive functionality and ease of use. The patient portal and smartphone application will allow for secure communication between patients and medical providers that will lead to better patient care and outcomes.”

Texas State University’s Student Health Center is a nationally accredited health center. The Health Center provides primary care, women’s health, sports medicine and psychiatry services for students. “The Health Center has been exploring methods for extending healthcare to students in ways that are convenient and helpful to them,” stated Dr. Carranco. “Students are comfortable with technology and embrace its use. The Health Center has been using virtual medicine to take healthcare to the student. Healthcare is no longer confined within the walls of the clinic or episodic. It is an ongoing effort between patient and medical provider to manage the patient’s healthcare. The patient portal and smartphone application make it possible to change the way we manage healthcare.”

“eClinicalWorks has a tremendous track record of excellence with Universities,” said Girish Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks. “Our integration capabilities and patient engagement tools equip organizations such as Texas State University in connecting providers with students, as well as others involved in their healthcare, with the most complete and up-to-date patient information. We look forward to improving its campus health services by providing innovative solutions to enhance the quality of patient care.”

Texas State University had a total of over 30,000 patient visits last year. The school will utilize an interface with the university’s Banner student information system for demographics and eligibility information and leverage P2POpen for connecting with area specialists and hospitals. Creating customized reports, eClinicalWorks’ Enterprise Business Optimizer (eBO) reporting package will give the student health service the ability to perform clinical and financial analysis to improve the quality of patient care and business operations.
