Driving Efficiency: eClinicalWorks Clients Embrace AI

Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing every aspect of the practice of medicine, from check-in and documentation to reporting and Revenue Cycle Management. More than ever, practices need reliable healthcare IT partners to help them navigate the challenges and opportunities that AI presents.

An article in the current issue of the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association notes that AI has the potential to address many challenges that today’s practices face, including clinician burnout, inefficiencies, and concerns about patient safety.

The article — which surveyed AI use among 67 health systems in the fall of 2024 — also found obstacles to the successful adoption and use of AI tools. These included insufficient understanding of how to adopt and implement AI tools, as well as financial and regulatory concerns.

The Tipping Point: Majority of Practices Now Rely on AI

The leading takeaway from the eCW survey is that AI has now reached an important tipping point, with more than half of respondents (56%) reporting that they are using AI solutions in their daily operations.

Of that number, more than 90% reported that AI has led to an increase in efficiency in one or more areas, with 78% rating AI’s effectiveness as moderate, significant, or extreme. Respondents noted that AI has been particularly helpful in better understanding their patients and helping providers better prepare for appointments.

Nearly half of respondents using AI have adopted Sunoh.ai medical scribe, with more than 75% of users reporting at least some improvement in documentation time and 60% reporting savings between one and four hours on documentation each day.

42% detected improvement in patient satisfaction
85% have saved or expect to save time on documentation
70% cite greater efficiency and reduced physician burnout

Fax Overload? Let AI Handle It

Practices of every size and specialty report receiving high volumes of faxes, in some cases hundreds of pages daily, including patient records that can run to many pages. More than 70% of practices using Image AI Assistant report saving one to three hours or more daily.

PRISMA AI Powers Smarter, Faster Patient Data Access

eClinicalWorks practices have been using PRISMA, our health information search engine, for years to gather available patient records and give providers the most complete information possible at the point of care.

Now, our survey finds that among those using AI Assistant for PRISMA, 50% of respondents are saving an average of between one and four hours daily.

Nearly two-third of respondents not using an AI solution report they are investing that same amount of time — one to four hours daily — tracking down patient records.

Streamlining the preparation of each patient’s case is a key drive of office efficiency, and the time practices can save by using PRISMA AI is time that can be spent on direct patient care and other critical clinical tasks.

AI Meets RCM: Maximize Revenue Without Missing a Beat

The eCW survey found that 54% of respondents plan to implement eClinicalWorks AI for RCM, with half of them using it primarily to identify gaps in coding.

Gaps in coding, along with processing insurance eligibility and deductible information, are the leading RCM challenges identified in the survey, cited by two-thirds of respondents. Staffing shortages and appeals management account for the remainder.
